Certificate + electronic invoicing

Qualified Electronic Signature in Panama.

The certificate the DGI requires to sign your electronic invoices, integrated with the Zoho Books + The Factory HKA connector we already built. The two pieces that have to work together, in one place.

Intro

The certificate doesn't work alone, it has to be connected.

As of January 1, 2026, the DGI requires every electronic invoice to be signed with a qualified electronic certificate, issued by a provider accredited before the National Directorate of Electronic Signature at the Public Registry. Without that certificate, your e-invoicer can't sign anything.

We already built the connector between Zoho Books and The Factory HKA to automate that signature on every invoice. As authorized FirmaTech distributors, we now also manage the certificate that makes that connector work, so you don't have to coordinate two separate vendors. How the connector works →

Legal basis

Not a scanned signature, it's legal proof.

Panama recognizes several levels of electronic signature, but only one is equated by law to your handwritten signature: the qualified electronic signature. It's backed by a certificate issued by a provider accredited before the National Directorate of Electronic Signature at the Public Registry, under Law 51 of 2008 as amended by Law 82 of 2012.

Certificates

The certificate you need.

Each certificate is built for a specific use case.

01 · E-invoicing: Legal entity

The certificate the DGI requires to sign your company's electronic invoices, ready to connect with Zoho Books.

02 · E-invoicing: Individual

The certificate the DGI requires to issue electronic invoices as an individual.

03 · Individual

Sign all types of documents (contracts, employment agreements) with the same value as your handwritten signature.

Why it matters

One piece doesn't work without the other.

01 · Certificate + integration

No two vendors to coordinate: the certificate and the connector that puts it to work signing every invoice, in one place. See the Zoho integration →

02 · DGI compliance

Mandatory for signing every electronic invoice issued through your PAC.

03 · Legal presumption

A qualified signature is presumed valid in court; a simple one requires you to prove its validity from scratch.

FAQ

Frequently asked.

What is a qualified electronic signature?

It's a signature backed by a qualified electronic certificate, issued by a provider accredited before Panama's National Directorate of Electronic Signature at the Public Registry. The law equates it to a handwritten signature.

Do I need the certificate if I already use the Zoho Books + The Factory HKA connector?

Yes. The connector automates the signature on every electronic invoice, but it needs a valid qualified electronic certificate to sign with. By also managing the certificate, we activate both pieces together instead of you coordinating two separate vendors.

Does a qualified electronic signature have the same value as my handwritten signature?

Yes. Unlike a simple electronic signature, which requires evidence to be accepted in court, a qualified signature is presumed valid from the start, with the same legal force as a handwritten signature.

What's the difference between a qualified signature and a simple signature?

A simple signature is a technical method that identifies the signer, but if it reaches a court, you have to prove the method was reliable. A qualified signature, backed by an accredited certificate, is accepted as valid without that proof.

Is a scanned signature an electronic signature?

No. Panamanian law treats it as a "digitized signature": it's just an image of your handwritten signature, easy to copy and without the legal backing of an electronic signature.

How do I process my certificate with Digital Reset?

As authorized FirmaTech distributors, we guide you through identity verification and certificate issuance. If you already use or plan to use our electronic invoicing connector with Zoho Books, we coordinate both pieces so they work together.
